CORTIJO EL PASO has the basic category rating and is in the beautiful village of El Pilar - Vélez Blanco. It was built in 1868 and refurbished in 1998, conserving the size and layout of the original building, as well as its construction materials and typical regional features such as stone and clay walls, and roofs with wooden beams and blocks. Original decorative elements such as farm tools and old furniture have been maintained, giving it a cosy, rustic atmosphere. The farm grounds cover 1 hectare. It is an ideal place for rest, peace and quiet, in touch with nature.
The farmhouse sleeps 12 people in 6 double rooms: 3 have double beds and 3 are twins. All of the bedrooms are fully equipped for a comfortable and restful stay.

The farmhouse is in a privileged setting, at the foot of Las Canteras hill, where there are remains from Neolithic and Bronze Age settlements, proof of the farmhouse's strategic location, both on account of the surrounding landscape and the proximity of freshwater springs.
Its situation between the villages of Vélez Blanco and Vélez Rubio means you can make the most of both. In Vélez Blanco we should make special mention of its impressive Los Fajardo castle, and in Vélez Rubio, of the La Encarnación Basilica, a jewel of Almeria Baroque architecture. There are also local fiestas, traditions, restaurants, shops, museum visits, etc.
The farmhouse has many far-reaching views. South of the farmhouse you will find the Corneros River; to the southwest the Sierra de las Estancias Mountains, reaching 1,500 m above sea level; to the north, the "Muela de Montalviche", with its impressive 200 m-high cliffs and an altitude of more than 1,500 m. In the surrounding area you can see birds of prey in flight, especially griffon vultures and eagles, species which are currently increasing their populations in the region once more. Finally, to the west, you will find Mount Mahimón and the Sierra de María Mountains, reaching more than 2,000 m above sea level. Some of these areas are within the Sierra María-Los Vélez Nature Reserve.
